Sorry for all these off-topic posts… hopefully they’ll get buried in the avalanche of relevant DIY Tube posts to come! After fighting all evening with getting emails to be sent through my ISP I gave up on the Authenticated SMTP and fell back onto the old SMTP server that my ISP still allows for sending… this is an SME Server configuration problem (nothing related to WordPress this time) and I couldn’t locate any relevant support [...]

O.k. my first successful php debug!
The Postie plugin provides much more flexibility in posting from email, but gmail and my own ISP insist on POP3-SSL and that just wasn’t working.
cat /var/log/messages | grep PHP
showed an error message:

Please excuse the ’stock’ look & feel. I think it will take a while to get some ’style’ into this site as I will have to tackle php and css!
But I did pass a milestone tonight when I got all the basic functionality working (sidebar links to About, Categories, Archives and the Link Directory).
